Why customers choose XKY Energy

Serviced by people who know heat pumps

A heat pump isn't a boiler with a different badge. Servicing one properly means checking the whole system — not just the box outside.

🔍

The whole system, not just the unit

We service the whole system rather than only the manufacturer's own components. That's often exactly where the problems from a rushed installation first show up.

🛠️

Whoever fitted it

You don't need to have bought your system from us. We service heat pumps installed by other companies regularly, and we'll tell you honestly what we find.

📈

Settings tuned to your house

We calibrate the sensors and adjust the settings to how you actually use the system — not how it was left on the day it was commissioned.

What actually goes wrong

An unserviced heat pump doesn't break. It just quietly costs you more.

This is what makes heat pumps different from boilers. When a boiler is neglected, it eventually stops and you call someone. When a heat pump is neglected, it usually keeps working — it simply does the same job less efficiently, every hour of every winter, and the cost turns up on an electricity bill nobody thinks to question.

Left to get on with it

No annual service

Nothing dramatic happens. Filters gradually restrict airflow, sensors drift, antifreeze levels drop, and settings left at commissioning no longer match how the house is actually used.

The system compensates by running at a higher flow temperature

Higher flow temperature means higher running costs, permanently

Small faults stay hidden until the coldest week of the year

A missed service can invalidate the manufacturer warranty

How we'd do it

Serviced once a year

Filters cleaned, sensors calibrated, antifreeze checked, settings adjusted to how you actually live in the house, and the electrical and cylinder safety checks done properly.

The system keeps running at its designed flow temperature

Developing faults get caught while they're still small

Your manufacturer warranty stays valid

You get told what we found, in plain language

The point of the annual service isn't to stop a breakdown. It's to stop the slow, invisible drift away from the running costs your system was designed to deliver — the whole reason you fitted a heat pump in the first place.

What you actually get

What our heat pump service covers

Every annual service includes all of the following.

Operation of all heat pump components

A full check that every part of the system is doing what it should, with any fault logs reviewed.

Sensors calibrated, settings adjusted

Recalibrated and then tuned to how you actually use the house, rather than left as commissioned.

Filters cleaned out

Restricted filters make the system work harder for the same heat. One of the most common causes of creeping running costs.

Antifreeze levels checked

Checked and topped up where needed — it matters most in exactly the weather you can't afford a problem.

Unvented hot water cylinder safety check

A full safety check on the cylinder and its discharge arrangements, carried out as part of every service.

Electrical connections checked

Integrity and safety of all electrical connections across the system.

Remote monitoring too. Where your manufacturer provides an online monitoring portal, we can look at how your system is actually performing between visits — so a developing problem doesn't have to wait twelve months to be spotted.

When to book

Once a year — and autumn is the sensible time

Why once a year

That's what we recommend for heat pumps, and it's normally what your manufacturer requires to keep the warranty valid. Equipment wears; regular maintenance extends its life and catches problems that are developing, so you aren't left without heating in the middle of winter.

Why autumn specifically

Because a fault found in October is an appointment, and the same fault found in January is an emergency. Servicing before the heating season means anything we find gets fixed while you still have time — and while you aren't depending on the system every hour of the day.

You don't have to be an existing customer

We service heat pumps other companies installed

A lot of the systems we look after weren't fitted by us. Some owners have simply moved house. Others were left without support after their installer moved on.

What we'll do

Service the system properly, check it against how it should have been designed, and tell you straight what we find — including if the answer is that everything is fine.

- No requirement to have bought from us
- The whole system checked, not just the branded components
- An honest assessment of anything the original install got wrong

If we installed it

After an installation we automatically offer a yearly servicing plan you can sign up for, so the annual service is simply booked in rather than something you have to remember.

- Service scheduled rather than forgotten
- We already know exactly how your system was designed
- 10% off any parts we supply, as a plan customer

Questions answered

Heat pump servicing FAQs

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Once a year. That’s what we recommend for heat pumps, and it’s normally what manufacturers require to keep their warranty valid. Autumn is the sensible time, so anything we find is fixed before you’re relying on the system through the coldest weeks.

Can you service a heat pump another company installed?

Yes, and we do it regularly. You don’t need to have bought your system from us. We service the whole system rather than only the manufacturer’s own components, which is often where problems with a rushed installation first show up.

Does servicing keep my manufacturer warranty valid?

In most cases yes. Manufacturers generally require evidence of an annual service for the warranty to remain valid, so a missed year can matter later. Check your own warranty terms — and we’ll tell you what your particular manufacturer asks for.

What does a heat pump service include?

We check the operation of all heat pump components, calibrate the sensors and adjust settings to suit how you actually use the system, clean the filters, check antifreeze levels, carry out a safety check on the unvented hot water cylinder, and check the integrity and safety of the electrical connections.

Do you offer heat pump service plans?

Yes — three levels: Essential, Premium, and Premium + Electric. All include the annual service and remove call-out charges, with the higher tiers adding a guaranteed 48-hour call-out, unlimited call-outs and cover for parts and labour. Plan customers also get 10% off any parts we supply. All plans are subject to a health assessment before sign-up.

Do you cover more than one heat pump on the same site?

Yes. If you have more than one heating system on the same site — two heat pumps, for instance — we can offer custom pricing rather than charging for each separately.

We're thinking about a heat pump rather than servicing one

Then the heat pump installation page is the better place to start. It covers the survey, the design, the Home Energy Scotland grant of up to £7,500, and the radiator question that decides your running costs.
